Magnolia Magic Competes at State

Magnolia Magic is composed of student athletes from both Magnolia High School and Magnolia West High School. Athletes from Magnolia High School include: Jonathan and Andrew Westbrook, Donald Brown, Courtney Ashlock, David Decker, and Christina Adams. Athletes from Magnolia West include Chelsea Guerrero, Dustin Allen, Nathan Plucker, and Ryan Holloway. The team is coached by Patty Havlin and Rose Stewart.
For their first game the Magic took on the Lewisville Mighty Bolts in a very evenly matched game. Both teams fought hard and it showed. The Magic made a basket in the final few seconds of the game to force a tie and go into overtime. Then it was a nail biter as the score went back and forth. But at the buzzer it was Lewisville up by just one point to win the game.
The Magic got some sleep and got up early to play the Garland Cool Cats at  8 a.m.  This time age paid off as the much older and aggressive team grabbed the win, 24 to 10.
For their final game of the conference the Magic were matched with a team they had played, and lost to, in the regular season. The Harris County Galaxy Big Dippers have both age and height on the Magic.
But practice and experience paid off. As the Harris County coach said, "This is not the same team we played earlier." And it wasn't. The Magic easily picked up a win, 24 to 16.
With Garland losing their second match to Lewisville, the Magic moved into the 2nd place trophy.

Congratulations Magic!
