2015 Science Fair Winners

On Friday, January 9 students presented their work to a panel of judges through student interviews and the winners were recognized at the award ceremony held Saturday morning. Out of the projects representing the work of more than 140 students, 35 received a place of 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their category allowing them to advance to the Houston fair. The Best of Show for both the junior high and high school divisions represent the “best of the best” from first place projects in each category. These outstanding students are Grace Smith from Magnolia Jr. High and Gloria McConnell from Magnolia High School.

Laurel Frank, director of science stated, “The judges were so impressed with the caliber of projects and the professionalism of the students. It was also a joy to see judges who were past MISD science fair students.” The judges are volunteers who represent professionals in the community in the fields of science, medicine and engineering.

The Best of Show students and the elementary and 6th grade winners will be recognized at the May School Board meeting. The Best of Show winners will each receive an iPad Mini and the elementary and 6th grade winners will each receive a Barnes and Noble Nook all courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Addison.

The MISD Science Fair shows the commitment of students, parents, teachers, school administrators and the community. These projects are just another example of what it means to be “dedicated to be the best district in the state of Texas.”
