MISD Places Top in District Academic Decathlon

Magnolia High School
Magnolia High School placed Second Team Overall and earned a total of 35 medals. The Second Place Team included Katie Nissen, Samantha Fedotova, Paige Dickey, Milena Peterson, Diana Ledezma, Jazmin Urrutia, Hannah Jones and Madison Mapes.

This is Magnolia High School’s first time to place this high as a team and place in every single event. Jamie Krempa, MHS Acadec Coach explained, “I have never had a team more committed to learn and win. To be successful in Acadec requires an internal drive because of the amount of content the competition entails. This year that internal drive was in all of them, and they came together as a team and won. I am extremely proud of their accomplishments, individually and as a team.”

Students earned 26 individual medals by placing in all ten events: Essay, Speech, Interview, Language/Literature, Math, Music, Economics, Science, Art, and Social Sciences. Katie Nissen placed third among all competitors in the entire competition which is a great accomplishment.

Magnolia West High School
Magnolia West High School placed Third Team Overall, First for Super Quiz and earned over 40 medals. "I am incredibly proud of our team and all of the hard work they did. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with them, and to share in their success,” expressed Elizabeth Blake, MWHS Acadec Coach. “I also want to salute the MHS Academic Decathlon competitors for their incredible achievement. How awesome that the Best District in the State of Texas has two of the best teams in the district!"

The Academic Decathlon is a nationwide program that offers students an opportunity to compete in 10 different academic areas. The competition consists of multiple choice tests, performance events and essays. Congratulations to these students!
