January Board Briefs

The January Students of the Month were Magnolia 6th Grade student Owen Maxwell and Magnolia Parkway Elementary student Nick Clark. Owen has attended Magnolia schools since kindergarten. Owen is outgoing, friendly, and always respectful of other’s feelings. His art teacher, Mrs. McCarthy, describes him as creative, persistent, and inquisitive. Owen can always be counted on to lend a hand to both teachers and his peers. His peers say, “Owen never judges others, but he looks for the best in everyone.”

Owen is on the all A honor roll. He is an active member of M6 Lone Star Leadership which is a service oriented club that is part of a partnership with Lone Star College. The club sponsor, Coach Dedear, says, “Owen always goes above and beyond. He is a leader amongst leaders.”

Owen also participates in UIL at Magnolia 6th. He is part of the UIL Spelling Team. Outside of school Owen enjoys playing tennis and traveling with his family. When he graduates from high school he would like to attend Rice and major in biology.

Nick has always been an inquisitive and creative child who has a love of books, traveling, and storytelling. While at home, you can usually find him reading or doing at-home science experiments.

Not surprisingly, Nick’s favorite class subjects are science and reading. His friends and teachers often remark on his vast knowledge and experiences. Nick is, in fact, a straight A student, and is very proud of that accomplishment. He is an outstanding child and student, and hopes to become a nuclear chemist when he grows up. He wants to work in a laboratory designing new medical procedures for people with diseases.

Community partner Emerus Community Hospital of Tomball honored both of the students of the month with a gift certificate for all of their hard work.

January is School Board Recognition Month and Dr. Stephens recognized the board for their commitment to public education. The staff and students of the district applauded the board for their vision to continue to make MISD the best district in the state of Texas!

The MISD Student Leadership cohort was recognized during the meeting. The program focuses on leadership development, civic awareness of local, county and the state government process. Students meet with the board members and enjoyed dinner with the trustees prior to the meeting.

Coach Shawn Bell recognized the Magnolia West High School Varsity Mustangs Football team for a great season and honored the graduating seniors.
