Magnolia West High School FFA Program Recognized as Top 50 in Texas

Magnolia, Texas (September 9, 2016) –Magnolia West High School FFA program was recognized with The Golden Horizon Award at the 88th FFA State Convention held in Dallas on July 14, 2016. The Golden Horizon Chapter Recognition program is a state level award to provide a measurement tool for chapter officers and advisors and recognize chapters who succeed in involving a large number of members in the diverse array of activities available through the FFA. This award recognizes a well-rounded local FFA chapter with an inclusive, progressive, aggressive program of activities that promotes maximum participation in order to deliver the leadership component of agricultural education.

Magnolia High School Student Selected to Compete in National FFA

Magnolia, Texas (September 8, 2016) – More than 20 agricultural teachers and college professors from throughout the U.S. recently met in Indianapolis to determine what FFA members and teams will compete for top honors in the 2016 National FFA Agriscience Fair. Coltin Walton of the Magnolia High School FFA chapter, has been named a national finalist this year in the Animal Systems category in the Individuals in Grades 7-9 division of the competition.

Magnolia ISD 32nd Annual Livestock Show

Magnolia, Texas (September 1, 2016) – Mark your calendars for the 32nd Annual Magnolia ISD Livestock Show on Friday and Saturday, September 23 – 24, 2016 at Magnolia High School Ag Barn on FM 1488.

Last year, $312,000 was raised and 258 animals were shown, thanks to the strong support of the Magnolia community. This is a significant increase compared to the previous year (2014) which they raised $282,000 and the students showed 167 animals. The hard work and dedication of the students, parents and teachers is what makes this event possible.

Construction Update

On Friday, September 16 at 5 p.m., the fiber optic lines will be cut-over for the construction of the new Magnolia Intermediate School. All district phones, servers, HAC, TAC, eSchool, website and campus wireless access points will not be available. All services will be restored by Saturday, September 17 at 6 a.m.

Director of Special Education President-Elect for GCASE

Magnolia, Texas (August 24, 2016) – Dr. Kendra Wiggins, Director of Special Education at Magnolia ISD, has been elected to be the Gulf Coast Administrators of Special Education (GCASE) President-Elect for 2016-2017 and will serve as the president for 2016-2017. GCASE is an organization for special education administrators throughout Region 4 and Region 6 that provides professional development, resources and scholarships to enhance the quality of services for students with disabilities.

Local Media on the 2015-16 Media Honor Roll

Magnolia, Texas (August 23, 2016) – General Manager Christine Leggett of the Community Impact newspaper was named to the 2015-16 Media Honor Roll, a program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), by Magnolia ISD. The Media Honor Roll recognizes media representatives statewide for fair and balanced reporting of news about public schools. Media from newspapers, radio and television stations, and online publications across the state were honored by their local school districts.

Sam Bell Named Director of Human Resources

Magnolia, Texas (August 9, 2016) – Sam Bell has been named the Director of Human Resources for Magnolia ISD.

In this role, Bell will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department and act as a key liaison to campus administrators. Bell will work with campus administration to continue to provide an integrated, customer-focused culture within the district.

Trustee Finalizes Leadership Training

Magnolia ISD trustee Gary Blizzard has earned the designation of Master Trustee upon completion of Leadership TASB, a program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). During the fifth session, June 30-July 1, school board members in the2015–16 Leadership TASB class made presentations of their team’s findings following year-long research. Class participants selected topics related to public school boards facing change and selected narrowed research fields for in-depth study. Their research focused on topics that included strategies to deal with employee retention, understanding statewide accountability, successful early childhood education programs, focused community engagement, the role of the school board regarding advocacy, and statistical identification of real achievement gaps.
