Magnolia ISD Chess Tournament Winner: Lyon Elementary

The Magnolia ISD elementary chess tournament took place today, Wednesday, May 20 at First Baptist Church in Magnolia. All eight elementary schools participated by sending 20 students. The kids earn points for their school by winning their matches. The school with the most points at the end of the tournament receives a trophy.

Magnolia ISD School Board Swears in New Member

Magnolia ISD School Board canvassed the results from the May 9th election and swore in newly elected board member Dr. Travis Moffatt during Monday night's board meeting. Moffatt, elected for Position 6, is succeeding Billy Thompson who retired after serving on the board for 18 years.

Magnolia JROTC Receives Distinguished Unit Award

The Magnolia Navy JROTC Unit was awarded the Distinguished Unit Award for school year 2014-2015. The award recognizes the top performing schools in a given area and is awarded by the Commander, Naval Service Training Command. Magnolia Battalion is assigned to Area 10 which is headquartered in San Antonio and is responsible for the proper administration of the NJROTC program for 57 units in Texas.

Region 6 Scrabble Tournament Winners

Congratulations to Garrison Hefner and Harrison Davis from Ellisor Elementary as they placed first at the Region 6 Scrabble Tournament held Monday, May 18. This event is open to students in elementary through eighth grade so these boys are quite the competitors! Students from Magnolia Parkway Elementary and Bear Branch Elementary also competed in the tournament.

Magnolia High School Students Bring Home National BPA Title

Students from Magnolia High School attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2015 National Leadership Conference, “Imagine, Believe, Become” in Anaheim, California held May 6 - 10, 2015. Magnolia High School chapter members Michelle Galeno, Blake Hale, Sarah Hubble, Maddie Karnei, Sarah Swift, and Caleb Wall joined over 5,000 other conference delegates from across the nation to participate in national level business skills competitions. Four of the six students from Magnolia High School brought home the coveted Financial Analyst Team championship award.

Magnolia High School DECA Awarded Highest Honors at International Conference

Magnolia High School DECA competed in the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida, from April 24 ‐ April 29, 2015. Approximately 18,000 high school students and advisors from all over the world competed in 36 different competitive events and leadership academies. Magnolia High School is proud to acknowledge International qualifiers and finalists Sasha Burns and Katterli Edwards.

Magnolia High School Welding Students Win in Area Competitions

The 14th Annual Blinn College Agriculture Mechanics Project Show held on April 29 had a record number of entries with more than 200 projects from 75 schools around the state. Ryan Villarreal of Magnolia High School took first place in the welding competition. His prize winnings included welding helmet, a buckle and a $1,000 scholarship to Blinn College.
