Bear Branch Elementary Receives Rainwater Harvesting System

Bear Branch Elementary in Magnolia ISD recently added a Rainwater Harvesting System to their gardening program with the support from the community and the Master Gardeners. The school is using this system to irrigate their vegetable beds where they have tomatoes, peppers, onions, lettuce, squash, beans and carrots. The school also has a greenhouse where they grow their own plants from seed.

Principal Named for Magnolia West High School

Brandon Garza has been named the new Principal of Magnolia West High School. Garza is currently the principal in Humble ISD at Ross Middle School and has almost 10 years of administrative experience. He has also served as the associate principal at Galena Park High School. Before becoming an administrator, Garza taught social studies, coached basketball and served as a high school guidance counselor.

MISD 6th Grade Athletic Evaluations

For the first time the University Interscholastic League (UIL) is allowing 6-A and 5-A schools to conduct athletic evaluations for 6th grade students prior to their entrance into the 7th grade. The Magnolia ISD Athletic Department will take advantage of this opportunity on behalf of our future student-athletes.

Magnolia JROTC Drill Team Competes at State

The Magnolia Navy JROTC Drill Team competed in the Area-10 Navy JROTC Texas State Championship Field Meet held at Texas A&M University on March 27 - 28. The team is composed of over 30 cadets, grades 9-12, from both Magnolia High School and Magnolia West High School. They all did a superb job and finished third overall. This was only the third time in the 14 year history of the Magnolia JROTC unit that they have qualified for state.

Magnolia High School UIL District Champions

The Magnolia High School UIL Academic team including the Speech and Debate team, and the One Act Play won the 19-5A District Championship for the second year in a row! This is fifth time in the last eight years that Magnolia High School has achieved this honor. The school’s team had 80 competitors who competed in 22 academic events. The team came home with 47 students placing in scoring positions and 33 of these qualified to advance to the region meet.

Magnolia Education Foundation Hosts Open House

Since the Magnolia Education Foundation formed in 2001, the nonprofit volunteer organization has put over $400,000 back into the district through the work of parents and community members who are committed to making a difference. With the Magnolia community growing, the Foundation is looking to engage new parents and community members in a worthy cause. Parents and the community are invited to the Magnolia Education Foundation open house on Tuesday, May 5 from 5:30 – 6:30 in the library at Magnolia High School.
