Magnolia High School UIL Computer Science Team Competing Strong

Magnolia, Texas (January 7, 2015) – The Magnolia High School (MHS) UIL Computer Science team has been busy competing in meets since early October in preparation for the UIL competitions that begin this month. This is only the second year MHS has had a computer science team and the group has already been to six meets with the advanced team placing in the top 10 at four of the six meets and the novice team placing in the top 5 at four of the six meets. The team also has had an advanced student and a novice student place in the top 10 in the individual written competition.

Paraprofessional Wins Grand Prize Trip

Magnolia ISD held their annual Teacher Open House on Thursday, December 18. The Grand Prize winner, Ms. Janneth Etter, won a round trip for two. Students at Smith Elementary gathered in the gym for morning assembly to help make the announcement to Ms. Etter who is a new paraprofessional with the school district.

MISD Navy JROTC Air Rifle Crowned State Champions

Last Saturday, students from the Magnolia ISD Naval Junior ROTC traveled to Joshua, Texas to compete in the Area 10 Texas State Air Rifle Tournament. The team competed in the last relay of the day giving them an advantage—they knew what score they needed to win the state title qualifying them for the Navy Nationals.

Magnolia High School Doubles the Number of Student MOS Certifications

The number of students at Magnolia High School who earned Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification before Thanksgiving has more than doubled this year. Ninety-eight MHS students earned their certification in MS Excel compared to 42 same time last year. The total number of certifications earned at MHS in the 2013-2014 school year for all MOS certifications was 223. There is great anticipation that the number of certifications earned this school year could reach or surpass 400.

Former Houston Texans Visit Magnolia Elementary

The cheers could be heard all the way down the halls as former Texans players J.J. Moses and Eric Brown entered the gym Tuesday morning at Magnolia Elementary School. The school was selected as one of two schools this fall to receive the Houston Texans Gatorade Junior Training Camp.
