DECA Recognizes Outstanding School-based Enterprises

Magnolia, Texas (March 8, 2017) The School-Based Enterprise at Magnolia High School of Magnolia, Texas was among 360 school-based enterprises in the United States achieving Gold Level Certification (or Gold Level Re-certification) this year and will be recognized at DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California. The students who worked on the certification were Alexandra Burns, John Hart, Veronica Herrera, Makenzie Robinson, Austin Sanchez, with the assistance of their advisor Calynn Perkins. The school-based enterprise at Magnolia High School has operated for four years and is to be commended for this achievement.

Magnolia ISD Students Advance to State Science Fair

Magnolia, Texas (March 7, 2017) – Magnolia ISD students competed in the 58th Annual Regional Science Engineering Fair of Houston February 24 -25. Students from 7th grade through 12th grade defended their original science research before a panel of engineers and scientists. Several Magnolia ISD students are advancing to the State Science Fair in San Antonio March 31- April 1, 2017.

Magnolia High School National Merit Finalists

Magnolia, Texas (February 27, 2017) – Congratulations to seniors Trent Harris and Jonathan Herrera from Magnolia High School for being named National Merit Finalists. They are now qualified to be considered for some 7,400 Merit Scholarships. National Merit Scholarship Corp will begin mailing scholarship offerings in March.

Magnolia Rotary Club Grant Gives 8th Graders Chromebooks

Magnolia, Texas (February 27, 2017) – The Magnolia Rotary Club partnered with the Magnolia ISD to bring a day of career explorations to eighth-grade students. On February 1, 200 eighth grade students – 100 from Bear Branch Junior High and Magnolia Junior High – engaged in a half day of career explorations on the campus of their respective high schools.

Magnolia ISD Approves 2017-2018 District Calendar

Magnolia, Texas (February 13, 2017) – The Magnolia ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2017 – 18 calendar during the regular board meeting on February 13.

The calendar was developed with the assistance of the District Educational Improvement Committee which is comprised of teachers, staff, administrators, parents, community members and business leaders.

Highlights of the calendar include:
• Dedicated teacher workdays at the beginning of school
• First day of school cannot be earlier than August 28 per state law
• Maintaining the week of Thanksgiving Break
• Christmas break includes 3 weekends
• Maintaining the last day of school before Memorial Day

Magnolia Education Foundation Announces Teacher Grant Awards

Magnolia, Texas (February 10, 2017) – The Magnolia Education Foundation (MEF) had the honor of surprising 18 teachers last with the announcement of the 2017 MEF teacher grant winners. Over $20,000 in grants was awarded to 10 different campuses. This year’s grant winners range from STEM activities, to music, to gardens, reaching across all grade levels and subject areas.

Magnolia ISD Student Leadership Visit to the Capitol Creates Unique Learning Opportunity

Magnolia, Texas (February 9, 2017) – Superintendent Dr. Todd Stephens’ vision of a student leadership program focused on government and civic leadership continues to grow and prepare our future leaders. On Tuesday, February 7, the student leadership cohort from Magnolia High and Magnolia West High Schools traveled to Austin to meet with local elected officials and to get an in-depth look at the operation of our state government. The 32 students along with school board members Kristi Baker and Joe Duncan, and Superintendent Dr. Todd Stephens spent a full day at the State Capitol meeting with state representatives and legislative staff members.

Magnolia, Texas (January 19, 2017) – Magnolia ISD held its annual Rodeo Art Show on Saturday, January 14 at Magnolia West High School. The annual event sponsored by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo featured artwork from MISD elementary, junior high and high school students.

District Science Fair Winners Advance to Region

Magnolia, Texas (January 18, 2017) – Magnolia ISD held its 13th annual Science Fair on Saturday, January 14 at Magnolia West High School for the district junior and high school students. The students who placed first, second and third place are now eligible to advance to the regional Science Engineering Fair of Houston at the end of February.
