Community and Student Engagement Ratings

House Bill 5 (HB 5) of the 83rd Texas Legislature Regular Session added Section 39.0545 to the Texas Education Code requiring each school district to rate the district as a whole and each individual campus on factors related to community and student engagement. As required by statute, the criteria used to assign ratings were developed by district and campus committees. The rating process included input from staff, students, and the community gathered through a survey administered each spring.

The statute requires that nine factors are evaluated for the district and for each individual campus. An overall rating for the district and each campus must also be assigned. Through the evaluation process a rating in each area was identified according to the following scale:

Exemplary, Recognized, Acceptable, Unacceptable, or Not Applicable

The following nine areas were evaluated for the school year.

  1. Fine arts**

  2. Wellness and physical education**

  3. Community and parental involvement**

  4. 21st Century Workforce Development programs

  5. Second language acquisition programs

  6. Digital learning environment

  7. Dropout prevention strategies

  8. Educational programs for gifted and talented students

  9. Compliance with statutory reporting requirements*

* Will receive a rating label of Yes, No, or Non Applicable

**The District will perform a self-evaluation in these areas for the 2017-2018 year. We will utilize our parent community surveys, and campus-based committees to complete the ratings.
