March 12, 2020 Update

Magnolia ISD is continually monitoring the evolving status of COVID-19 virus in the greater Houston area including Montgomery County. We are aware of the two presumptive positive cases in Montgomery County and other confirmed cases in Harris County.

While it is our hope that our families are enjoying the last few days of spring break, we have used this time to disinfect and sanitize our facilities, classrooms, buses and playground equipment. Our custodians use a disinfectant cleaner that is approved for use in hospitals and other health-related organizations to help offset the spread of contagious illnesses.

Our administration has maintained close contact with local, state, and federal officials regarding the COVID-19 virus including regular daily briefings from the Texas State Department of Health in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We are following the guidance and expertise of these health organizations along with our local Montgomery County Public Health District to help protect our students and staff.

We will provide any new updates on Magnolia ISD’s website, parent email/text, and district social media channels.

As a reminder, health officials are recommending local communities and schools to take the same simple everyday preventive actions used to help prevent the spread of viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

No additional precautions have been advised at this time. We will continue to monitor and respond accordingly as guided by local and national health officials.
