District Hires Pediatric Doctor as Chief Medical Officer

Emergency room pediatric physician, Dr. Alfred Martinez, has been hired to be the Chief Medical Officer for Magnolia ISD.  As this is a unique and new position for MISD, Dr. Martinez will be the lead medical advisor for the implementation of health services policy and procedures as they relate to the wellness of the students and staff. Dr. Martinez has been the pediatric medical director and staff physician for prestigious institutions such as Texas Children's and Memorial Hermann Hospitals.

As school districts are having to follow guidelines and recommendations from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and other local governmental agencies, Dr. Martinez’s medical expertise is extremely valuable.  Dr. Martinez will be the district liaison with other medical agencies as it pertains to mental and/or physical health and an integral part of developing new safety protocols and procedures as it relates to COVID-19 and other communicable illnesses. He will work to keep MISD and the community on the leading-edge of being healthy and well.

Districts are required to have a coordinated school health program for students, but hiring a board-certified pediatrician allows MISD to have in-house expertise when it comes to pediatrics. He brings medical knowledge in the areas of infectious disease, public health, immunizations, pharmaceuticals, and sports medicine.

Dr. Martinez shares, “There is a quote from Vincent van Gogh ‘your profession is what you are put here on earth to do, with such passion and intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.’ I am honored for the opportunity to unite elements of science, wisdom, and compassion so our children may flourish physically, psychologically, and emotionally now and into the future.”

Dr. Martinez is currently a pediatric emergency physician with HCA, Memorial Hermann, and the University of Texas Medical Branch Memorial Hermann and has over 21 years of practicing medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Martinez and his family reside in The Woodlands and they are active in the community.
