In an effort to continually improve safety, Magnolia ISD has purchased student ID cards for all students. The RFID (radio-frequency identification) cards will provide greater efficiency for students when interacting with various district services including the cafeteria and library.
The ID card will allow students to purchase lunch in the cafeteria touch-free by scanning the ID card instead of typing in the student ID number in the keypad. Each student ID card is linked to your child’s SchoolBucks account. Also, students are able to use their new ID to check out books at the school library.
Currently, ID cards have been distributed at the following campuses:
- Magnolia High School
- Bear Branch Junior High School
- Bear Branch Intermediate School
- Magnolia Parkway Elementary School
- Bear Branch Elementary School
- Ellisor Elementary School
Child Nutrition will continue to distribute ID cards to the remainder of MISD students with the rollout completed by February 1, 2021. Some of the elementary campuses have created a process to allow students to keep their ID cards in their homeroom class. Your child’s campus will communicate with you how the school is keeping the ID cards secured.
What happens if my child loses their ID card? If your child loses their ID card between now and October 31, 2020, Child Nutrition will replace that card for free. After that time, the replacement cost for the card is $3.
This ID card will follow students throughout their MISD academic career, thus keeping them in a safe place over the summer for use the following school year is important. For students with a school picture on their ID card, the Child Nutrition Department will replace the ID card for free every two years to keep photos current.
MISD is hoping to expand services to students where they will have other opportunities to use their ID cards in the future. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact the Magnolia ISD Child Nutrition Department.
