District Hosts First Battle of the Books Tournament

Magnolia, TX (May 4, 2022) - Over 100 students are in the Battle of the Books clubs at schools around the district. The top teams recently competed at the Battle of the Books Tournament at the Magnolia Event Center.
 
Battle of the Books is a book-related competition for students in grades 3 - 8. Students are quizzed about books they have read from a designated Battle of the Books reading list that includes 20 titles. 
 
"Battle of the Books is a program that encourages students to read a variety of books by children's authors that include several genres which keep students engaged in their reading," said Bear Branch Elementary librarian, Heather Cowham.

The top teams consisted of 36 students from three elementary libraries. Students from Bear Branch Elementary, Magnolia Elementary, and Nichols Sawmill Elementary competed and the results are as follows:
 
1st-place - Rapid Readers from Nichols Sawmill
2nd-place - The Jersey Boys from Bear Branch Elementary
3rd-place - Black Knights from Nichols Sawmill
