Magnolia High School Students Bake a Winning Recipe

Magnolia, Texas (October 30, 2014) – Magnolia High School students Cassie Cutshall and Tristen Kersey baked winning cupcakes at this year’s Greater Houston Area Cupcake Battle sponsored by the Hospitality Educators Association of Texas (HEAT). The event was held at Magnolia High School on Saturday, October 25 with almost 80 students from the Houston area and Montgomery County competing for a prize.

Cassie Cutshall won Best Cake and Tristen Kersey won Best Frosting.

Students bring a dozen prepared cupcakes, frosted and decorated to the competition.  They are presented in a display of the student’s choice and three of the cupcakes are judged on taste, texture, flavor and moistness. The entire display is judged on presentation.

Students in the culinary programs and the food science classes from local high schools are eligible to participate in the competition with their teachers being members of HEAT.

Winners receive various prizes such as a stand mixer, cupcake carriers, and various baking items.  The categories are Best Cake, Best Frosting, Most Interesting, Most Technical/Difficult, Best Decorating and Best Presentation with each category having a first, second and third place winner.
