Magnolia West High School Students Give Christmas to Local Families

Through the MWHS campus leadership, the participating clubs and organizations receive information about a family – number of children, ages and their Christmas wishes, all kept anonymous. The students then purchase, wrap and label each Christmas present.

The counseling office has been filled with gifts from floor to ceiling for all of these families. “It is such a memorable experience for the giving students and for those who will have a Christmas to celebrate,” stated Bonnie McCoy, lead counselor at MWHS.

In conjunction with the Christmas gifts, the families also receive food for the holidays. Mr. James Massey coordinated the 6th Annual Share Your Holidays Food Drive which wrapped up this week. Students brought approximately 2,200 pounds of food. Since the food drive started in 2009, the students from MWHS have collected over 26,000 pounds of food for the community.

Mr. Massey stated, “My 4th period class emerged the victors in the competition this year, bringing in 656 pounds. After adopting 25 families in the Magnolia area, we were still able to donate food to SOS (Society of Samaritans).”

The clubs and organizations involved this year were: band, girls soccer, MWHS administrative team, the Fillies, swim team, DECA, softball team, FCCLA, golf team, tennis team, cheerleaders, student council, volleyball team, FFA, Mustangs for Christ, Interact club, culinary art classes, teachers and parent volunteers.
