Magnolia ISD Teacher Wins State Teaching Excellence Award

This was the first time Mrs. Lemen attended the annual conference. As the Teacher Excellence Award presenter was reading excerpts from the winning application, Mrs. Lemen sat at her table thinking “this is the kind of teacher I want to be.”

Her name was called and Mrs. Lemen started crying as she approached the stage to accept her award. She stated, “As I walked to the stage to accept this award, I am overwhelmed with joy. If you’re speaking about your job and passion and you don’t get a little emotional, you might need to reconsider your career.”

Her colleagues speak highly of her—a problem solver, a leader and a dynamic member of the math team. Her teaching style is engaging and her expectations are consistently high.

Mrs. Lemen has been with Magnolia ISD for 19 years with 12 of those years at Bear Branch 6th Grade. She has served the past two years as the math department chair at the campus.

Principal Burns stated, “Mrs. Lemen does not teach math, she teaches students. She is a great example of a teacher leader and always furthering her knowledge and desire to become better at her profession.”

The TRC for Excellence in Science and Mathematics is an award-winning statewide network of 57 P-16 partnerships that provide sustained and high intensity professional development to teachers of science and mathematics across the state.
