Houston Renowned Architect Leroy Hermes Talks to Magnolia West Students

Mr. Hermes said to the class, “It takes a real commitment to be in this career. The lights are never off in an architect’s office. You have to be a business person, a marketer and be a public servant. Get involved in your community and different organizations. ”

Architecture schools are highly competitive. He spoke with the students about building a portfolio, be active in organizations and extracurricular activities as you will be preparing to present your work in order to be admitted into the school of architecture and to be hired by prospective employers.

Mr. Hermes is known in the Houston area for the design of NRG Stadium, home of the Texans football team. He served on the University of Houston Board of Regents, was the founding principal of Hermes Architects and is active in several Houston organizations. He is a graduate of the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines, College of Architecture and in 2011 was awarded a Distinguished Alumnus Award by the University of Houston Alumni Association.
