New District Leaders for Curriculum and Magnolia West

Before becoming an administrator, Dr. Garza was a guidance counselor, basketball coach and taught social studies in Pasadena and Fort Bend ISD. In his new role, he will be working with the curriculum department analyzing data for secondary student learning objectives and goals, and facilitating district professional development as well as working with secondary counselors.

“For the past several years at West, we have worked to establish a strong instructional culture and implemented various instructional best practices and intervention systems. This will translate into my new role as I work with all the secondary campuses to continue to bring Magnolia ISD to new levels of student achievement,” stated Dr. Garza.

Garza holds a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, a Master’s degree in Educational Management and a Doctorate in Education Leadership both from University of Houston Clear Lake.

Dr. King’s educational career spans 10 years, nine of which have been in Magnolia ISD. Most recently, he served as the principal of Bear Branch Junior High.

His educational career includes teaching junior high, high school, and college level English. He also served as the curriculum coordinator for English/Language Arts and Reading for grades 6-12, Academic Coordinator at Magnolia Junior High, and coached junior high boys basketball.

“I’m honored to be the new principal at Magnolia West High School! It has been my pleasure serving the students and staff at Bear Branch Junior High, and I’m looking forward to working with students and staff at Magnolia West. I’m excited about the opportunity to build new relationships, continue to foster a culture of learning, and help students and staff reach their full potential in and out of the classroom,” explains Dr. King.

Dr. King holds a Bachelor’s degree from East Texas Baptist University, a Master’s degree in English from Belmont University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
