DECA Recognizes Magnolia High's Bark Store for Outstanding Enterprise

Magnolia, Texas (February 16, 2018) – The School-Based Enterprise at Magnolia High School was among 391 school-based enterprises in the United States achieving Gold Level Certification (or Gold Level Re-certification) this year and will be recognized at DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The school-based enterprise at Magnolia High School has operated for five years and is to be commended for this achievement.

Teacher Spotlight: #IAmTXEd

As you walk by Magnolia ISD 6th grade English teacher Delfina Garcia’s classroom, the academic rigor and love of learning is the standard in her classroom. The student’s enthusiasm can be heard through the small group discussions happening in the class and seen as the students are flipping the pages in their book to find a quote to share in the story. As you stand in the doorway observing this captivating interaction, listening to the peer-to-peer discussion happening within the small groups, this type of exchange has created a love of reading.

Bad Weather Make-Up Time

This year, Texas has been challenged with the weather starting with Hurricane Harvey and last week with our wintery weather days.

Texas schools are required by law to have a minimum number of minutes each academic year. For Harvey, TEA waived the days missed but with the two inclement weather days last Tuesday and Wednesday, the district now falls short of minutes required.

MISD Navy JROTC State Champion

Magnolia, Texas (January 22, 2018) –Students from the Magnolia ISD Naval Junior ROTC traveled to San Antonio, Texas last month to compete in the Texas State Air Rifle hosted by the Navy.

Jasmine Wilkerson, a third year cadet, finished 1st, defeating 345 shooters to become the Texas State Champion in Sporter Air Rifle. She will go on to represent Texas at the Navy Nationals in February competing against all the states and territories. She is a junior at Magnolia High School and the captain of the Air Rifle team.

Academic Decathlon Results

Magnolia West High School students competed in the Region VI Academic Decathlon at Klein Oak High School on January 19th and 20th. The Academic Decathlon is a competition where each student competes in a total of eight academic events and two speaking events. Students who participate in this program have opportunities to win scholarships, letter, and receive graduation cords. These driven and determined students practiced many hours including during the Christmas break and the school holidays this year. It has been a challenging year with Harvey in the early part of the year and the winter storm just two days before their competition. Their hard work paid off as they took 2nd Place Team and 2nd Place in Super Quiz. They also received a total of 28 individual awards. The Magnolia West Honors team took the top scores in 6 out of 10 events, scoring first in Math, Science, Literature, Social Studies, Essay, and Speech.

TMEA 2018 All-State Band

Magnolia, Texas (January 22, 2018) Magnolia High School Band is proud to announce sophomore Jenna Stone, clarinet, and junior, Jeffrey Kean, tenor saxophone, have earned membership in the 2018 Texas All-State Band.
