Plans to Honor the Class of 2020

Class of 2020 Students and Parents,

Today, Magnolia ISD administration finalized graduation plans and moved the date up to Tuesday, June 9th with a weather make up day on Wednesday, June 10th. Graduation will be held at Woodforest Bank Stadium located at 19115 David Memorial Drive Shenandoah, TX 77385.

Last week, the Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced guidelines for end of the year events such as graduation and prom that all schools are required to follow. While we must be in compliance with the State requirements, we also want a traditional ceremony for the Class of 2020. To that end, we have selected an outdoor venue that not only meets these requirements but also provides for as many guests to attend as social distancing guidelines allow.

Prom is typically an event with hundreds of students gathered in one single, indoor space. Unfortunately, this type of event does not fall within the TEA guidelines that are now required for school functions. Therefore, we will not be able to have prom this year. Our administration and staff understand the disappointment this causes for our students and all those who have worked tirelessly to plan this special event. However, we must remember that the guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency is in place to protect the health and safety of our students, faculty, families and our community at large.

Parents will receive additional communication next week regarding further details about graduation.

Thank you.

Class of 2020 Students and Parents,

As mentioned last week, our graduation ceremonies will be held on Tuesday, June 9th with a weather make up day on Wednesday, June 10th at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah, TX.  Since we have made this announcement, we have been working diligently to plan an event that meets all the safety protocols for our graduates, families, and staff following the Commissioner of Education’s COVID-19 guidelines.

The Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Guidelines for graduation ceremonies after June 1 include limiting capacity at the ceremony, screening attendees for health concerns, not having graduation rehearsals, social distancing of 6 feet, providing hand sanitizing stations, and limiting the number of staff in attendance among a list of other specific guidelines.

Our plans include seating the graduates on the field 6’ feet apart, families will enter the stadium through a color-coded designated entrance to take their seats, and every other row of the stadium will be blocked off. We are working on seating arrangements to have families sit in groups of four with 6 feet between each group. This means graduates will be receiving 4 tickets for their family with assigned seating for the ceremony. We are also looking at live streaming the event due to social distancing and capacity restrictions.

.

While the guidelines don’t require masks, we strongly encourage our families to consider wearing a facecloth or covering. Magnolia ISD will be providing special masks for each graduate designed specifically for them with their school brand.

As we work through all the details regarding seating arrangements, tickets, parking, plans for arrival and departures, and all the other details that go with planning this type of event, we will be sharing with you in the coming weeks all of the details.

Thank you for your patience as we work through all the details for this special occasion. We continue to work on the details to make sure we are meeting all the safety measures so we can give our graduates the ceremony they deserve.

Thank you.

The Magnolia ISD administrative team has been working to plan alternative arrangements for many milestones that typically occur at the end of our student's senior year.  We'll post updates to this page as more information becomes finalized.
