Mission and Philosophy

Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Department of the Magnolia Independent School District to ensure that all children have equal access to the best education while promoting pride in cultural linguistic heritage. Further, Magnolia ISD is committed to addressing the needs of all students who are identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP) and to provide the best educational opportunity by providing bilingual education and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs that emphasize best practices in learning.

Philosophy
The Magnolia Independent School District wholeheartedly believes in maximizing learning by teaching children in their native language and providing a solid foundation in order to make a smooth transition into English. We view the students' native language, culture and knowledge to be the foundation for academic and social growth. We hold very high expectations for students, teachers, administrators and parents. The goal of Bilingual Education in Magnolia ISD is to have students participate successfully in the mainstream curriculum while becoming independent, creative thinkers and problem solvers.

Goals:
  • To provide an educational program that will address the needs of students who are identified as limited English proficient by providing bilingual education or ESL;
  • To provide limited English proficient students the opportunity to become proficient and excel in oral and written English for academic success in an all-English curriculum;
  • To provide limited English proficient students the opportunity to master the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in all areas and to master the state assessment;
  • To provide limited English proficient students the opportunity to develop confidence, self-assurance, and a positive identity with their cultural heritage;
