Dr. Jason Bullock

The Magnolia ISD Board of Trustees has named Dr. Jason Bullock as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent of Schools. The board approved Bullock as the lone finalist during their April 15 meeting. Bullock will replace Dr. Todd Stephens who is retiring this summer after serving as Magnolia ISD’s Superintendent since 2009.

Board President Gary Blizzard said, “Selecting Dr. Bullock as our lone finalist is the right choice. He wants to continue to make an impact in the Magnolia community and will keep the main thing—our students—the main thing. We are excited to have him here in MISD.”

Dr. Bullock has served as the Deputy Superintendent in Magnolia ISD since 2020 after joining the district as Assistant Superintendent for Administration in 2012. Over that time, Dr. Bullock’s responsibilities have included the hiring and supervision of campus and district administrators, district policy development, and coordinating major district initiatives.

“I am incredibly honored to be chosen as the lone finalist for the Superintendent position here in Magnolia ISD,” Dr. Bullock said. “This is a special community filled with great people. I look forward to continuing to work with our Board as we strive to be the best district in the state of Texas.”

This year marks Dr. Bullock’s 26th year in Texas public education. He spent the first 14 years of his career in Temple ISD where he served in a variety of positions including high school history teacher, department chair, advanced academic coordinator, Principal of Temple High School, and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. He also served as an adjunct history professor at Central Texas College and Amberton University.

Dr. Bullock was born in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi. He holds BA and MA Degrees in History from Abilene Christian University, where he played baseball. He later graduated with a doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Dr. Bullock lives in Magnolia with his wife Kendra, a district nurse. They have three daughters. Claire is a current MISD student. Brooke and Emma are Magnolia ISD graduates who both attend Abilene Christian University. This personal connection to the district reinforces Dr. Bullock’s commitment to the Magnolia ISD community.

In compliance with state law, there will be a 21-day waiting period before the board can vote to offer Dr. Bullock a contract. Dr. Bullock will transition into the Superintendent role over the summer.
