Magnolia ISD librarians hosted the fifth annual Magnolia Reads Jubilee on Friday, May 31 at the Magnolia Event Center. The summer reading kick-off program began in 2019 as a district grant through the Magnolia Education Foundation and has become a highly-anticipated event for students and families.
The Magnolia Education Foundation continues to be the event's title sponsor, donating $10,000 to Magnolia ISD for the purchase of books. The Jubilee brought hundreds of students who participated in carnival-style games to win free books. The event aims to encourage summer reading to improve reading skills and increase the desire to read.
Free for all Magnolia ISD elementary and intermediate students, the event also included vendors such as Boy & Girl Scouts, Society of Samaritans, Montgomery County Library, Houston Methodist Willow Hospital, H-E-B and Chick-Fil-A Magnolia, as well as a book fair for students to select a free book. The Magnolia Fire Department and Montgomery County Hospital District provided an up-close view of a fire engine and an ambulance. Constable Chris Jones cooked hot dogs for all guests.
Special thanks to H-E-B for donating the hot dogs and water bottles for patrons. Gordon Food Service also donated hot dog buns for the event. Each student was provided a draw-string backpack to hold their new books, thanks to backpack sponsor Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
