Lyon Elementary Celebrates Third Grader Sophia Cuellar as She Rings the Bell Cancer Free

Sophia_LES Student Celebrates Being Cancer Free

It was a morning full of cheers, smiles, and happy tears at Lyon Elementary School as students and staff gathered to celebrate third grader Sophia Cuellar, who recently completed her chemotherapy treatments and is now cancer-free.

Sophia was diagnosed with bone cancer earlier this year and bravely endured months of chemotherapy, which caused her to miss much of the spring and early fall semesters.

Sophia’s mother, Jess Camacho, is a pre-K aide at Lyon Elementary, and the entire campus rallied around their family during this difficult journey. Today, that support turned into a joyful celebration as Sophia returned to school to ring the bell, a meaningful tradition symbolizing the end of cancer treatment and the start of a new chapter of health and hope.

Principal Erin Spangenberg shared, “Sophia is cancer-free and is back at school, and we are so excited for her!”

The celebration was a touching reminder of the resilience and love that define the Magnolia ISD community. As Sophia rang the bell, her classmates clapped and cheered, honoring not just her recovery but her incredible bravery.

Magnolia ISD joins Lyon Elementary in celebrating Sophia’s recovery and wishes her continued health, happiness, and success.
