Magnolia West High School senior Tye Watson has been selected as one of two state winners of the Texas Thespian Festivals Playwriting Competition, a National Qualifying Event for his original work. 

The two playwrights chosen participated in play development workshops and script-in-hand readings in November at the Texas Thespian Festival in Grapevine, TX. The playwright and actors collaborated with a director and dramaturg at the Festival, emphasizing bringing the play to life on stage with minimal production elements and strengthening the script through rewrites. The student playwrights were part of the production team as they observed the reading.

This is a huge honor and a first for Magnolia West and the district.

Tye was also recognized for his outstanding academic achievement as a National Merit Commended Scholar. Thank you to theater teachers Cody Davids and Marley Graham for their commitment to our students.
